After you release your mouse button, the gadget will be stuck to that location on your desktop. This is often very useful for some gadgets, such as RSS feed readers, because the expanded version makes it much easier to read the news. Experiment with dragging your gadgets off the sidebar and onto your desktop and see how your gadgets work.
